Cub is in the Holiday Spirit!
Jul. 14th, 2009 09:56 pmWhat holiday, you ask?

An endcap full of Spongebob cakes, DVDs and CRAZY decorations.

Yes. That is a Happy Birthday banner. In a grocery store. For a cartoon sponge. (ironically, isn't Spongebob the character's actual birthday June 14, 1986? Which makes him exactly the same age as
leilawinters!)

As much as I'm really, really not wild about most of the post-2007-ish Spongebob (the last episode I really enjoyed was "Not Normal"), I have got to say that the art looks amazing these days, and the promotional/merchandising art is like blow your mind good and detailed. Here is an example. :D
(And to be fair, the newer Spongebob eps do gain some points with me for the sudden focus on Squidward, and Spongebob's obsession with same.)

Some of the cakes and cupcakes!!! I wish the price tags weren't in the way, but I really didn't want to call TOO much attention to myself. You know... an adult standing in the grocery store taking pictures of Spongebob cakes. So you'll have to fill in the blanks with your imagination.

These cakes feature little plastic Spongebob, Patrick and Mr. Krabs, in addition to surprisingly accurate (for the show) frosting flowers, water and jellyfish. No Cake Wrecks for these cakes! It makes me wonder if that nerdy bakery girl is a Spongebob fan.
And yes. Yes. Those are RAINBOW cupcakes in the back. Subtlety? What's that! :D

DVDs for sale!

Moar DVDs, and if you squint, you can see the words "Krabby Cakes" in the background.

99 cent cupcakes! 10 Spongetastic years.
And, a BONUS

STAR TREK CAKE. THE MOST GQMF OF ALL THE CAKES. Complete with tiny plastic Enterprise.
